Indus Practices
 High Attention to the Child:

In the Ananda phase, Indus believes in a low student -teacher ratio upto Class II and ensures two teachers in each class to provide for maximum attention to each child. The class strength usually varies between 30 to 36 children. The low student teacher ratio allows us to incorporate some of the best-known international practices followed world wide and in the best schools of India. Some examples of this are Thematic Learning, Home Visits, and Circle Time etc.

THE INDUS WAY: THEMATIC LEARNING
At IWS we believe that learning must be a joyful experience. If the learning is contextual and relevant a child will understand the content being taught and as a result experience the joy of learning. Themes are carefully chosen and lesson plans designed around each. Themes across the year, focus on learning objectives and out comes are clearly set, with this in mind an integrated learning day flow is created which includes learning Math, Language Art and esthetics around a theme. read more

THE INDUS WAY: QUALITY CIRCLE TIME
At Indus we practice Quality Circle time, better known as a QCT. We set aside time each week to meet, share, think, and respect and understand each other. This ensures that as a community we 'Learn to Listen' and understand each others points of view. read more

THE INDUS WAY: HOME VISITS
At Indus we believe that parents are our partners in the learning process. Understanding the family and its culture is integral to bonding better with a child. Mentors visit the home of each child once a year to get to know the family better. This little gesture goes a long way in building a lasting bond between child, mentor and parent.

  Child Friendly Environment :

Even at the earliest age levels, children are allowed to own their spaces. They give names to their classrooms, frame their own classroom rules and make choices of how they want to spend their time, during designated 'Choice Times'. Children are dealt with a great sensitivity and respect. By giving children freedom, responsibility and respect, they grow up as self-adequate individuals with high self-esteem and a sense of self-discipline. In a recent survey of IWS Parents an overwhelming 98.7% claimed that their children are very happy to come to school each day. This is testimony to IWS efforts to make schools a place where teachers, students and parents love to be in touch with the school.

Self Directedness and Self Discipline :

Indus believes the 21st century workplace is one in which individuals will work in unstructured environments and without supervision. From the Jigyasa stage children start setting goals for themselves in consultation with their parents and teachers. These academic and non-academic goals are reviewed and renewed from time to time in their own personal Indus Know Thyself Book (IKT).

  Creativity, Collaboration and Communication:

It is common to find Indus students leading parent teacher meetings by demonstrating their learning's through the Student Led Conferences (SLCs). These SLCs are opportunities for students to work in groups and practice their presentation skills. During Assembly time and school functions, it is common to find students completely managing the show, including writing their own scripts, choosing their own costumes et al.

Language Skills - DEAR Period :

'Drop Everything And Read' , Role Plays and Story Telling are some of the unique practices which promote reading and language skills among young children. Our classrooms in the Ananda phase have Reading corners and Word Walls, which encourage a natural way to learn the language. At Indus we believe that creative expression has to be encouraged from an early age and children from an early age engage in writing their own poems and making stories.

  Activity Based Maths :

Indus children mostly love mathematics, a subject that is usually feared by students. At Indus we follow the approach of Realistic Mathematics, propounded by Jodo Gyan, an organization entrusted by GoI to rewrite the NCERT math books. This is a revolutionary approach of teaching mathematics, followed by some of the best schools in the country. Our teachers are specially trained in these techniques, which complement the wonderful textbooks we follow.

Unique Early Age IT Curriculum :

Children in Indus follow a very unique IT curriculum which is designed by curriculum designers based in IIT Bombay. This encourages children to understand logical and computational thinking from an early age. Indus children in Grade III learn to do visual programming exercises and create their own interactive stories and games and share them on the web. read more

Music, Art and Sports are given a lot of importance at Indus :

From the early years 60% of the time is allocated to activities, which develop emotional, physical and creative intelligences.

Music, Art and Sports are not considered co-curricular at Indus they are an integral part of each day. We believe that exposure to art and aesthetics is central to the development of a child's body and soul.

In the early years we use a unique sports curriculum aimed at making children fearless. As they grow up team and individual sports like Tennis, Golf, Cricket, Soccer, TT and Badminton are actively played at Indus.

  Inter-Personal Skills development :
Inter-Personal Skills development and value education are encouraged from a very early age. A unique practice at Indus is one of Quality Circle Time, which is followed once a week by teachers and children together. During this time children learn to sharpen their thinking and listening skills, learn to give and receive feedback to each other and share their emotions with each other. These practices help children increase their perceptiveness and self-disclosure which are critical life skills.
  Parents :
Parents are encouraged to be a part of the school and are frequently invited to the school to participate in their child's progress. In a survey of IWS parents, over 95% have reported that teachers are very approachable in Indus. Our Parental interactions are very frequent and almost every month Indus organizes parenting and parental guidance sessions.

  Career Guidance and Training:
From Class IX onwards students are given specific career guidance and training for competitive exams. Training for IIT entrance /Medical are integrated within the school timings to reduce the stress of external coaching. At Indus we believe that during the Sadhana phase, it is the school's responsibility to provide children with inputs on improving their logical, verbal and mathematical aptitudes. From Grade XI onwards students who are keen on going to places like IITs and the top Law schools will be given examination support at IWS itself.

  Technology :

Technology is widely used in our schools. All schools are equipped with a computer lab, which has a safe and stable environment for children to use. All our campuses are well networked with Internet access. Our classrooms and AV Rooms are adequately technology enabled. We even have a high-speed video conferencing network across all school locations to allow teachers and students to interact with each other.
