Learning by doing
‘I hear - I forget, I see - I remember, I do - I understand.’

It’s difficult to forget a situation that you were personally a part of. Similarly, if a child conducts a chemistry experiment by herself, she won’t forget the experience for a long time.

Indus emphasizes on learning through action, through inquiry. Ours is a model of learning for understanding. Central to it is:

1. The creation of active experiences
2. Encouraging and facilitating the asking and answering of questions

The 5 Es of effective learning:
We follow the five Es quite strictly in our pedagogy:

Engage: create an activity that engages the child, ideally an experience from real life

Explore: create opportunities for exploring the idea viz. let them use different cricket bats of
different weights on the field

Explain: explain the phenomenon observed by giving it a name e.g. what they saw was indeed Newton’s second law of motion at work

Expand: help create connections to more complex ideas and thoughts on the subject

Evaluate: test and assess the students’ understanding to know whether they have actually been able to breakdown, digest and understand what was learnt
