Questioning
"Ask a man a question
and he inquires for a day; teach a man to question and he
inquires for life"
Parents, do you remember your school days? The best teachers
were the ones who did the littlest talking and had the most
action in their classrooms from students.
It is no simple task - to be able to ask the right questions:
the ones that foster more questions in the minds of the child
and lead to better learning. There is a need for change in
perception of the child, to believe that the child is capable
of constructing knowledge out of their experiences.
Constructivist Theory
According to this theory, learning cannot happen in isolation.
It happens in a context. For example, if a child is told that
the earth rotates, she uses previously built knowledge to
base this as the truth. Since she may already know that the
planet is round, it makes sense for her to understand that
it may or may not be spinning. How fast does it rotate? What
makes it spin and how? And the questioning continues …
Indus Mentors
Teachers merely answer questions. But
an Indus
Mentor is one who provokes you to ask
even more questions. Indus firmly holds that, NEVER discouraging
a question is what makes the difference between a good teacher
and a great facilitator.
